Skylight Installation and Replacement in Colorado Springs, CO

Ready for a brighter, more open home — without worrying about your roof?

What's at Risk When a Skylight Is Installed Without Roofing Expertise?

A skylight is one of the most rewarding home improvements a Colorado homeowner can make — and one of the most consequential if done wrong. Because a skylight isn't just a window. It's a deliberate opening in your roof's weathertight envelope. What happens at the flashing, the seal, and the product selection determines whether you get the transformation you wanted or a problem that costs more to fix than it did to install.

Skylight leaks are almost never a product failure. They're an installation failure — specifically, a flashing failure. A skylight installed by a general contractor or window company that treats it as a window project rather than a roofing project will eventually fail at the point where the skylight meets the roof. Old World Roofing installs skylights with the same flashing system and weatherproofing standard we use on every roof we put on a Colorado Springs home.

Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles, temperature extremes, and UV intensity at altitude create specific demands that generic skylight installations don't account for. A skylight installed with inadequate flashing, improper pitch, or without attention to Colorado's thermal dynamics becomes a source of heat loss in winter and condensation problems year-round — problems that compound quietly until they surface as visible damage.

Colorado Springs sits in an active hail corridor. Standard skylight glazing is not rated for hail impact. A significant hail event can crack or pit unrated glass, damage the skylight seal, and create the leak pathway that the original installation was designed to prevent. Old World Roofing specifies hail-rated glass on select Velux models and recommends the appropriate product based on your roof's exposure — a conversation most installers never have.

The most common reason Colorado Springs homeowners defer a skylight project isn't cost — it's uncertainty. Uncertainty about which product is right, which contractor to trust, and whether a beautiful home improvement might turn into a roofing problem. That uncertainty is legitimate. And it's exactly the kind of question that a roofing company with nearly 50 years of Colorado experience is uniquely positioned to answer.

The Perfect Combination of Natural Light and Roof Confidence

A skylight should give you natural light and roof confidence — not one or the other. Old World Roofing has been delivering both since 1977 — and our approach to skylight installation reflects that. Every Velux skylight we install, every custom order we complete, is treated as a roofing project first and a home improvement project second.

The right skylight transforms a room in a way that no paint color or light fixture can replicate. Morning light through a properly sized and positioned Velux skylight changes how a space feels — more open, more alive, more like the home you always meant to have. Old World Roofing helps you get there without the roof anxiety that keeps most homeowners from starting the project.

We install Velux skylights, including models with hail-rated glass specifically recommended for Colorado's hail exposure. Not every installation requires hail-rated glazing — but every Colorado Springs homeowner deserves an honest conversation about it before the product is selected. We have that conversation at the consultation, before anyone touches your roof.

Every skylight we install receives the same flashing system, sealant specification, and weatherproofing attention we apply to every roof we build in Southern Colorado. We don't install skylights like a window company. We install them like a roofing company — because that's what we are, and because the difference shows up in the seal that keeps your home dry for the life of the skylight.

A well-installed skylight adds architectural interest, natural light value, and curb appeal to any Colorado Springs home. We help you select the right Velux model — or design a custom solution — that complements your home's roofline, fits your space correctly, and performs through Colorado's full weather range without the aesthetic compromises that come from choosing the wrong product or the wrong installer.

We Understand the Hesitation — and We're the Contractor Who Makes It Simple

We understand the hesitation that comes with a skylight decision — it sounds like a home improvement but it's also a decision about your roof's weathertight integrity, and the fear of getting that wrong is legitimate. You shouldn't have to choose between the natural light you want and the roof reliability you need. The good news is that with the right contractor, you don't have to.

Old World Roofing installs and replaces skylights the way a roofing company does it — with the same attention to flashing, sealing, and weatherproofing that goes into every roof we put on a Colorado Springs home. Founded in 1977 by retired U.S. Army Officer John Whitley and led today by son Rolf and grandson Marshall, we are an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, a BBB A+ accredited company since 1991, and an authorized Velux installer with custom order capability. We've been doing this work in Colorado's climate for nearly 50 years — and we do it in the context of the roof system, not despite it.

3 Simple Steps to Natural Light Done Right

Getting a skylight installed correctly — or replacing one that's failing — doesn't have to be complicated. Our process starts with an honest assessment of your roof and your space, and nothing happens until you fully understand what we're recommending and why.

Skylight Installation

Step 1: Schedule Your Free Consultation

We assess your roof, your space, and your goals — identifying the right Velux model or custom option for Colorado's climate demands, your home's roofline, and the natural light transformation you're looking for. We explain the hail-rated glass options, the flashing approach, and what the installation involves in plain language before we recommend anything. Zero obligation to proceed.

Step 2: Choose Your Skylight with Confidence

We walk you through the product options — standard Velux models, hail-rated variants, vented vs. fixed, and custom configurations for unusual spaces. We explain what each involves from a roofing perspective: flashing system, weatherproofing approach, thermal performance, and expected outcome. You understand exactly what you're approving before anyone cuts through your ceiling.

Step 3: Professional Installation — Roofing Standard

We install your skylight as roofing professionals — properly flashed, properly sealed, and inspected from both inside and outside before we consider the job complete. Every installation is backed by the warranty of a contractor who has been at the same Colorado Springs address since 1977 and will still be here if a question ever comes up.

Frequently Asked Questions About Skylight Installation in Colorado Springs

Skylight installation cost in Colorado Springs depends on the skylight type (fixed, vented, solar-powered), the model selected, whether the project is a new installation or a replacement, and the specific roofing conditions at the installation point. Most residential skylight installations range from $1,500 to $3,500 fully installed, with custom configurations and hail-rated glass options at the higher end. Old World Roofing provides a free consultation and clear written scope before any work begins — so you know the complete cost before committing.

A new skylight installation involves cutting a new opening in the roof and ceiling and installing the skylight and flashing into a previously unmodified roof surface. A skylight replacement removes an existing skylight and installs a new one in the same or similar opening — typically required when a skylight is leaking, fogged between panes, cracked, or past its functional lifespan. Old World Roofing handles both, and the consultation will identify which applies to your situation and what the installation involves at the roofing level.

Colorado Springs sits in one of the most active hail corridors in the country — and standard skylight glazing is not rated for hail impact. Hail-rated glass is available on select Velux models and is worth serious consideration for Colorado homeowners. A hail impact on unrated glazing can crack or pit the glass, damage the skylight seal, and create the leak pathway the installation was designed to prevent. Old World Roofing discusses hail-rated glass options at every skylight consultation and recommends the appropriate product based on your roof's exposure and your homeowner's insurance situation.

Common signs that a skylight is leaking or failing include: water stains on the ceiling or framing around the skylight, fogging or condensation between the panes that doesn't clear (indicating a failed seal), visible cracking or pitting of the glazing, and drafts or thermal discomfort directly below the skylight in winter. Some skylight failures are gradual — water migrating into the framing before it surfaces as a stain. If you're seeing any of these signs, schedule a free consultation before the next Colorado storm season. Earlier diagnosis prevents structural damage.

Most single-skylight installations — new or replacement — can be completed in one day by Old World Roofing's crew. The timeline depends on whether interior ceiling work is required (for new installations), the complexity of the roofline at the installation point, and current scheduling. We provide a clear timeline at the consultation so you can plan accordingly. We don't consider a skylight installation complete until both the exterior flashing and the interior finish are inspected and confirmed correct.

Skylight installation and replacement in Colorado Springs, CO requires more than the right product — it requires a contractor who treats the opening in your roof with the same seriousness as every other component of your roofing system. At Old World Roofing, we don't install skylights like a window company. We install them like the roofing company we are — and the difference is in the flashing, the sealant, the product specification, and the conversation we have with you before anyone touches your ceiling. A skylight should give you natural light and roof confidence, not one or the other. We've been delivering both since 1977.

We are an authorized Velux installer with custom skylight order capability — serving Colorado Springs homeowners who want a standard installation, a replacement for a failing or fogged skylight, or a custom solution for an unusual roofline or architectural space. Velux skylights are available in fixed, vented, and solar-powered configurations, with select models offering hail-rated glass specifically appropriate for Colorado's active hail corridor. We assess your home, your space, and your roof before recommending a product — so you get the skylight that's right for your situation, not the one that's easiest to install.

Old World Roofing is a family-owned skylight installation and roofing company in Colorado Springs — founded in 1977 by John Whitley and led today by son Rolf and grandson Marshall. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor and BBB A+ accredited company since 1991, we serve homeowners throughout Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Monument, Briargate, Broadmoor, Manitou Springs, Fountain, and the surrounding communities. Don't let uncertainty keep your home from the natural light it deserves. Schedule your free skylight consultation today and let Old World Roofing show you what a properly installed Velux skylight looks like — from the flashing up.

What Our Colorado Springs Skylight Customers Say

Meri B.
I recommend Old World Roofing to all of my clients and friends. These guys have done an outstanding job for us for many years ! Highly recommend them !
Matthew H.
This is why I went with a local company and not a national conglomerate. Chris and his wife were a joy to work with and honest in their dealings with no sales pressure tactics which is a stark contrast to just about every other door to door roofing company in COS.
Robert H.
Great roofing company that really cares about their customers. They handled all the correspondence with the insurance company. They even went to bat for us when the insurance company didn't want to cover some expenses multiple times. They did a professional install and picked up all trash and nails. They came out multiple times to meet with the insurance company to make sure they saw the hail damages. Do not call the insurance company if you suspect you have hail damage as it counts as a claim even if you don't file a claim and it goes on your record... Call Old World Roofing!

My original skylight installation leaked significantly after snowstorms. Within a short time of contacting Old World Roofing, Jeff gave me an estimate to repair the damage to the roof, replace my skylight, and also repair a few other areas of concern. Jeff was attentive to detail and completed all repairs in a timely fashion especially since he had to work around forecasts of snow. Old World Roofing will be at the top of my list for any future roofing needs.
Donald A.
Great experience with Old World Roofing and specifically Jeff Tonso. Jeff did a thorough inspection of our roof (after a recent exterior painting project). We have concrete tiles that are very durable but also can crack if stepped on at the right point. Jeff provided a reasonable estimate (including numerous pictures) to make the identified repairs and even came back to address a couple items that he found while completing the repairs.
Derek M.
I needed a small job done during the summer months. It was just minor repairs to the roof and some stucco. Other companies prioritized the big, high-income jobs over something like mine. Old World's estimator, Jeff came out a day after I called and gave me my estimate a day after that, while other companies took days to arrive and up to weeks to send me the estimate. Their stucco estimates were lazy, estimating a pricey re-build rather than a small repair. Deciding on Old World was easy. Jeff came out and completed the repair in a couple of days without any hiccups. Lots of photos. I’m sure my roof will last at least another decade. The amount of work was less than estimated, which is the only reason I'm giving fewer than five stars. I would hire Old World again.
Joseph W.
Several weeks ago Jeff Tonso did some work on my in-laws roof. I asked if he could take a look at the gutters on my house for replacement or repair. He gave me an estimate. We hired him. Last night it rained like hell and not a smidgen of water leaked around or out of the gutters. A+ to Jeff and to Old World Roofing.
Kelly W.

We especially appreciated the daily worksite cleanup. We highly recommend Old World Roofing - and have especially high praise for Jeff!!

Great service. Jeff Tonso, the on-site manager did a fantastic job.

We have an older tile roof (1996) that needed some TLC. Jeff Tonso was able to repair outside soffit damage as well as acquire replacement tiles, fit them and repair leaking areas. Jeff did a great job!
Reb D.
I really appreciate the follow thru by Jeff after purchasing my new home.
Jim B.
Been my roofing company for years. They always do a quality job.
Rylie L.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Old World Roofing and project manager Chris on a roofing project for my home, and I must say they surpassed all my expectations. From the very first consultation to the final completion of the project, Chris displayed exceptional professionalism, expertise, and a true dedication to quality. He took the time to thoroughly inspect my roof, patiently answered all my questions, and provided a detailed breakdown of the required work. Moreover, Chris's communication skills were top-notch. He kept me informed about the project's progress and promptly addressed any concerns I had. His friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with Old World Roofing and Chris's professionalism. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking roofing services. Ellin J.
Beautiful job and a beautiful roof! Everything was done well and as promised. The job site was neat and clean as well. Thank you!
Jonathan “Jon” S.
Old World Roofing provided excellent service and I'm so happy with them. They came out and did a roof inspection. They found and documented in photos a few cracked tiles on the roof that need to be repaired/replaced. They also found that the roof jacks were all worn and needed to be replaced after 23 years. As we're getting our windows replaced in a few months we decided to hold off on the tile repairs until the windows are completed, but we went forward with the roof jack repairs. Once the windows are done, they will come back and re-inspect, make sure there isn't any additional tile damage, and we'll move forward with the tile repairs. Great service from the inspector (Steve Houston) to the person that did the work on the roof. Thanks folks for a great job!!
Allen A.
I won't use anyone else

Thanks to Old World Roofing and Particularly Carl who was able to locate excess inventory of some tile that is no longer made but that we needed on our house due to damage from the February 100 MPH winds. After repairs, the roof looks great again.

Great to work with and went out of their way to personally deliver a receipt to the owner because she needed it to close on the sale of her home. Thanks!

Just the best! I have used Dan and the crew several times and I will always call them first!
